Tika Pahari has been the mainstay face of Nepali cinema since 2034 B.S. One of the most recognized character artists of the Nepali celluloid, Pahari is known for his realistic and detailed acting among movie artists and viewers. His coming into the cinema after a long and a hard fought career in the drama field helped him portray his character with fineness and apt in the future. His roles in Badalindo Aakash, Jiwan Sangharsha, Yug Dekhi Yug Samma, Deuta, Badaal, Chatyang, and many others have established him as a force in character acting. The fact that during his career in acting he never resided in the ‘maya nagari’ of Kathmandu and always selected films from his home town in Butwal helped develop him as a selective artist. Pahari is known to accept roles which are well constructed for his persona and his style of acting. A product of Pune Film Institute (PFI), Pune, Maharashtra, India, Pahari is contemporary to many a legends of the Nepali cinema and the Indian film industry as well. He was batch mate and contemporary to Naseruddhin Shah, Shakti Kapoor, Raj Babbar, and many others while at PFI and this fertile aggregation of future stars helped him develop himself as a person more inclined to justifying his roles than just filling the reel space of a movie by mere presence. Born in 19 Chaitra 2006 B.S in Nawalparasi, Pahari had his initial Schooling in Palpa and further schooling in various places of India, including Gorakhpur. Introduced to drama by a school teacher while at class ten, Pahari developed a strong liking into this field and subsequently acted in three other school dramas. After Matriculation in India, he came to Kathmandu for his I.Sc and enrolled into Ananda Kuti Science College, Swyambhu. He remembers that the Royal Nepal Academy just came into inception at that point and except for some very rare independent events the field of drama was all but in primitive infancy. During that point, he remembers the movie industry just coming into the foresight and people thronging to theatres to watch the recently released movie ‘Maitighar’. These chains of events helped him decide that he could fulfill his acting wishes via this newly emerging field of movie making. This influence morphed his ambition into the field of Cinema and he went to PFI in 2030 B.S. with a team of thirteen Nepali Students to study acting. He came back to Nepal after his two years of course and meandered hopelessly for some time in the non-existent movie market before returning back to India and playing in nearly about forty dramas. During that time, he came back to Nepal and signed ‘Jiwan Rekha’ for Chalchita Sansthan. However, the project was delayed for one and a half years and Pahari, who felt cheated with the developing internal politics, garnered a strong resent for such activities. This is one of the reasons he chose only selected films and always resided in Butwal later on with his family apart from the shooting and post production times. He then played in movies like Samjhana, Uchi Udaan (Hindi Movie), Hami Ek Hau during the initial days of staying in Kathmandu. Around that time, in 2038 B.S Pahari got married to Manju Pahari. He has three sons, Gaurav, Saurabh and Sulav, from his marriage. His son Gaurav Pahari also made his acting debut in the movie ‘Manjari’ in 2013 A.D. From late forties of the Nepali decade, there came a flood of Nepali Cinema and during that time he became a prominent face of Nepali Cinema. Still acting and still uncompromising, Pahari strongly urges newcomers to not take the field of Cinema lightly and give due respect to the field of movie making.
